Peripheral Neuropathy is a very common (15-20 million Americans have peripheral nerve disease) yet relatively unknown condition.  Neuropathy is a deterioration of the peripheral nerves (the nerves from your spinal cord outward toward the rest of your body) caused by damage to the peripheral nerves, neuropathy disrupts the body’s ability to communicate with its muscles, organs and tissues. Nerves are like wires that send messages from your body to your brain and back.  Having a problem with these wires (neuropathy) can cause symptoms such as tingling, burning, itchiness, crawling sensation, dizziness, clumsiness and more.  Most commonly the burning and numbness will start in your feet and with time will move up your legs.  As the pain and numbness reaches your feet you may begin to feel pain and numbness in your hands also.  The unrelenting burning pain can, at times, make patients contemplate suicide.

* 60% of diabetics suffer with neuropathy.
* 30% of neuropathy cases are diabetics.
* Neuropathy affects about 20 million people in the US.
* 30% of neuropathies are of unknown causes.

Our approach to treating neuropathy is a multifaceted approach.  Most important, is to determine the cause of the neuropathy if possible.  Many times the only work up for neuropathy is to check for diabetes.  The patient is then told that if he is not diabetic but has burning and numbness in his feet, that his neuropathy is idiopathic (of an unknown cause). In fact, there are many other causes of neuropathy including conditions such as thyroid disease, issues with B vitamins, anemia, Lyme disease, statin drugs i.e. Lipitor, alcoholism, HIV, chemotherapy, kidney disease, flouroquinones i.e. Cipro, gluten sensitivity, immune dysregulation, arsenic involvement among others.  As a bit of trivia, the most common cause of neuropathy in the world is leprosy.

Thus, after a thorough history and examination many times appropriate laboratory testing may be in order.  The laboratory testing may require simple blood work or testing from specialty labs depending on your particular situation.  This is the functional medicine portion of the evaluation.  Here were looking for possible biochemical causes for your symptomatology.

Are you dizzy?  Do you have a balance problem associated with burning, numbness and tingling? We will perform a functional neurological examination and evaluate for a vestibular disorder and also check to see if your symptoms come from a location higher up in your nervous system.

Do you have orthopedic problems associated with your feet?  Do you have kinetics chain issues relating to your lower extremities?

All these issues will be evaluated and then a treatment plan will be formulated that may include  vestibular, cerebellar or central nervous system rehabilitation, orthotics, and most commonly nutritional supplementation and high power laser therapy.  High power laser therapy is a large part of our treatment approach to neuropathy.  This, of course, depends on what we find with regard to your history, examination and/or lab work.  Therefore, if you schedule a consultation be sure to bring any prior records or laboratory evaluations that you have had performed in order to save both time and money.

How is high power laser therapy used to treat neuropathy?

High power laser therapy is a new non-invasive treatment performed on an out patient basis for neuropathy sufferers that have previously been non-responsive to other forms of treatment. With this painless, non-surgical therapy patients typically gain relief within a few treatments.

Results come from the laser’s ability to “bio-stimulate” tissue growth and repair. This results in accelerated wound healing as well as a dramatic decrease in pain, inflammation and scar tissue formation. Unlike all other treatment modalities, a laser treatment actually “heals” tissue. The laser’s superior results come from its ability to deliver healing laser energy to the targeted tissues.

Biological Effects of Therapeutic Lasers
Laser therapy aims to biostimulate injured and dysfunctional tissues. Clinical studies and trials of Class III and IV laser technology indicate the following beneficial effects of light therapy on tissues and cells:

One. Anti-pain (analgesic)
Two. Accelerated tissue repair and cell growth.
Three. Improve nerve function.
Four. Anti-inflammation
Five. Improved vascular activity.
Six. Increased metabolic activity.
Seven. Reduced fibrous tissue formation.
Eight. Faster wound healing.

A Word from Our Patients

Dear Dr. Mañé,
Thank you so very much for everything!!! You, Bronia, and all your staff have been friendly, fun, helpful, and made me feel very comfortable from day one by explaining everything to me, introducing me to a patient going through the laser treatment and letting me talk with him to see what the treatment would be like for me. I felt at home with everyone.
Right away the orthotics that you custom-made for me instantly made my feet more comfortable. The laser treatments were very comfortable and most of the numbness on my feet has disappeared, most of the discomfort (felt like lumpy socks on the bottom of my feet) has disappeared, the burning is completely gone, the tingling in my feet is almost completely gone, and best of all, I am able to stand in my kitchen to cook and still have company over at night without foot pain.

Thank you so very much for giving me back the ability to walk and shop without pain, and hopefully travel and dance in the near future.
With much thanks and appreciation for everything,

Sylvia G.

Dear Dr. Nelson Mane,

I wanted to let you know how pleased I was with the high power laser that you treated my feet with. The class IV Laser therapy took care of the tingling in my feet and most of the numbness from the neuropathy.

Bronia, who was a delight and your entire staff were very friendly and great to work with.

Thank you for the help that no other doctors could provide.

Dear Dr. Mane and Staff,

For more years then I care to remember I was somewhat handicapped by my neuropathy.  I had very little feeling in my feet and calf of both legs and could not walk properly.  The numbness and stiffness was affecting me emotionally and physically.  It was not only an embarrassment but also a real concern that I would fall. After many attempts to gain medical help, which was unsuccessful, (I was told that I had to “learn to live with it” or take medicine for the rest of my life).  When I saw the Ad in the St. Petersburg Times regarding your seminar on relief from neuropathy, I felt what can I lose by the least finding out what is new and can it help me.

Doctor, I would be happy to tell anyone about the improvement that was made using the Laser Treatments.  I do not have as much numbness or stiffness as previously and feel that I can walk much better and with confidence.  The treatment plus adjustment to my feet makes the stiffness livable.  Thank you and your staff for this vast improvement and increasing the quality of my life.  Also, thank you Sara for your concern and caring of me during my treatments.

Dear Dr. Mane,

I wish to thank Dr. Mane and his staff for their courtesy and professional ways while treating me for neuropathy.  I’ve had numbness in my feet for seven years.  During that time, Doctors would only say that there was no cure and offered only prescription medication to calm my feet which never helped the cause.  My feet never felt like they were in my shoes.  It was always like walking on air and I never felt them on the ground.  I was glad to see the advertisements about laser treatments for neuropathy.  After consulting Dr. Mane and learning about his laser treatments, I decided to proceed with them.  After 12 treatments, my numbness has disappeared and my feet feel good in my shoes.  Andrea did all my laser treatments and was always very courteous and patient.  Advertisement always pays, especially for me upon learning about laser treatments for neuropathy because it has worked.

Again, many thanks.
Geraldine M.

I am writing this letter in great appreciation for the wonderful experience of Laser Therapy.  I have had nothing but pain due to my neuropathy since 1995.  My last hope was the suggestion that I attend the seminar and find out what all the excitement was about in regard to this new treatment.  I was skeptical and was sure that it would not even reduce my pain.  After seven treatments, I can now say that I am pain free and able to get through my day without my normal doses of pain killers and nerve suppressors.
I am so relieved and want to give all of you a big pain free hug! I thank you so much.  I want to let others, who are feeling no hope of being pain free due to long existing neuropathic conditions, know that there is hope!  Attend the seminar, get a consultation, and you can be happy once again! Again, I thank you and wish you success in all of your endeavors.  You truly deserve this.

Sincerely yours,
Tammy C., CNA   Spring Hill, FL

First, before I go any further about the Laser procedure I want to take this opportunity to thank the staff that works for Dr. Mañè and how professional and courteous they have been with me and other patients that I have noticed and whom have spoken with me also.

Sara, my personnel Technician who conducted all the treatments except one, first was warm, sincere, courteous, as well as professional when she treated me three times a week for two months. Besides being a professional she got to know me as well as the areas on my feet which she was treating. She was very conscious about my pain level as well as doing her best not to cause any extra discomfort during my visits. I felt also so relaxed with her that I thought many times one of my daughters was helping me like they do at home. Sara became very close to me and I take this time to thank her very much. Thank you my “Little Sara, I will miss you and our talks”.
I want to give my special thanks to Dr. Mañè. Upon my first visit in your office your staff welcomed my husband and I and made us feel very relaxed. When we came into your private office Dr. Mañè, you explained everything we wanted to know as well answered all of my questions as well as those my husband had. Your kindness and understanding the major issues I had with the pain in my feet relaxed me and reassured me that I was seeing a very professional and competent Doctor. Your hands on approach that you gave when you conducted the test on my feet showed me immediately that I truly was seeing someone who is well versed and understanding of the pain people have with their feet who also have diabetes.

Your explanation of the Therapeutic Laser Technology treatment was very reassuring. You told me as well as showed my husband and I letters from former patients who also had the same procedure and their wonderful results. When I first came to you the pain level I had on my feet was, on level 1 to 10 , ten being the worst, was #10. Very painful and extremely exhausting.

Upon the final completion of the Therapeutic Laser Technology, I walked out of your office almost pain free. Using the above mentioned scale level my pain at the end of the final session was between 0-1.
You showed me that you really care about your patients as well as you impressed me with how much I was improving weekly. Your reassurance that if I followed your advices as well as wearing my special foot inserts that were made by your staff my pain level would decrease. You were totally correct and honest.

Thank you all one last time for the professional support as well as the very special care you as well as your staff gave me. I will miss all of you but hope to see you around this city of Tampa.

My name is Alta J. I answered an advertisement in the Tampa Tribune about Laser Therapy for shingles and neuropathy in my feet, that I have for more than eight years. The burning and the numbness just got worse. After doing some research and talking with several professionals I wasn’t sure about going for the Laser Therapy. I attended a seminar at Dr. Mane’s office and I was convinced to give it a try. On about the fifth visit I started having relief. It is such a pleasure to watch TV and sleep at night without the burning and numbness. I still have some numbness from time to time but I am sure that will be gone soon. I am so grateful for the relief that this treatment has given me. There is no medicine or surgery involved with this treatment. I would recommend this treatment for anyone that has neuropathy, back pain or shingles. I want to say Thank you to the Doctor and his staff (especially Chris) for all their help and treatments.

Alta J.

Dr. Mane and Staff,

Visiting your office was wonderful experience for me. Sara (my angel) and all the girls are so kind and caring. We had fun and I felt so comfortable here.

I was diagnosed with neuropathy in my feet and legs approx 2 years ago. Medication did nothing and as time passed the pain, tingling, burning and numbness became more severe. The things I used to do that required walking was not an option. I had given up. I noticed an ad in the Tampa Tribune about High Power Therapy so I made and appointment for a consultation with Dr. Mane. I was apprehensive at first and I gained confidence while listening and talking with the “Good Dr.” and decided to take the treatments. After 4 sessions I could see a huge difference in my condition. I remained positive and continued to improve after each treatment. I had 15 treatments and in the past 3 weeks I have done so many things: dancing, shopping and the flea market. I gave my feet and legs a good work out. I cannot thank you and your staff enough. I have my life back and am enjoying every minute. I wear my sandals everyday. Not pretty but comfortable.

My Heartfelt Thanks,
Patti D. Valrico, Fl.

Dr. Mane and Staff,
Thank you all so much for all your support. You went way beyond being so gracious to extend my laser time. In fact you doubled it!! A special thank you to Bronia who patiently worked with me each visit. She has become very special to me. Again, thank you Dr. Mane! You are really a very special Dr.

Betty M.

Dear Dr. Mane,

I want to thank you and your staff for everything you’ve done regarding the Neuropathy in my feet.
Three months ago, when I came to visit you, I was looking for every excuse for NOT taking treatments, as they seemed “too good to be true”. As a matter of fact, I am probably the most skeptical person you have ever met. I’ve been told by many medical doctors that there was little hope; and the only treatments they seemed to give were pain medications such as Neurontin, Cymbalta, Lyrica and Oxycodone. What I did for myself, was to soak my feet in ice and water at least 4 or 5 times every twenty-four hours to help numb the pain.

After several trips to your office, and speaking to other patients, I decided to go ahead with the treatments. And, in speaking with my son, he stated the old adage, “Dad, it’s better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all.” That stayed with me a long time.
I started the laser treatments, and after 5 of them, my feet started burning less and less. When I started, my pain level was at least a 10. Now they are less than 1. I can now take on activities that 4 months ago would have seemed impossible.

When I came to your seminar, you had several people giving testimonials. I thought that they could have been paid and had never had the treatments they described. As I said before, I am a very skeptical person. I see now that I was very wrong! When something great happens to you, you want to tell others who have similar problems that there is definitely a treatment that could help them.
When the laser started working, I joked about giving a testimonial at one of the seminars. So, lo and behold, there I was on Tuesday, July 26, 2008, giving a testimonial.

I could not have asked for a more caring and efficient staff. I want to especially thank Bronia, the young lady who gave me all of my treatments. She is very caring and professional in carrying out her duties.
Again, I want to thank all of you for your help and concern in helping me get rid of my pain.

Earl W.

Dear Dr. Mañè,

Thank you for introducing me to your clinic. I had heard about the new laser treatments that were available. But until I saw your advertisements I did not know where they were available. But upon seeing your invitation for an evaluation as to whether or not I was a viable candidate, I decided to give it a try. From my first interview and evaluation with you I gained confidence that this treatment might just be the answer I was seeking to alleviate my neuropathy symptoms (foot tingling also foot numbness.) which prevented me from getting a good nights sleep.

The rest in now history. Not only has the laser treatments resolved the tingling problem (sleep), but the numbness has all but disappeared. Also, during your regular visits while my therapy was in progress, you suggested that the treatments would help my PHN (Shingles pain & burning).. I have had that for 4 years. That also has all but disappeared. You had the therapist add that treatment during my regular visits for Neuropathy.

The summary of all of this is; I am totally relieved of the symptoms of both Neuropathy and PHN.. For me, miraculous.

At my age, I obviously have had a number of visits with various medical professionals. I can honestly say that none compared with professionalism, the caring, the personal attention are by far beyond and previous experience. In particular, I want to thank you, Chris, Andrea, but also, every person on your staff has been so personable. Thank you once again for the results and the experience.

I’m writing you to thank you for the amazing effect your therapy has done for my uncle. Cdr. Miller, USN Ret., has been going to the VA for years for diabetes, and the resulting neuropathy. The only solution was to increase the drug load, and finally offer amputation of both legs at the knees. This was to say the least, not an option. His intake of pain meds and Neurontin was increased proportionally. The VA tried every new drug and still little to no help. Most of the drugs were Neurontin derivates anyway. I, being an RN, could not understand how a drug to decrease nerve feeling would help his neuropathy. He was still walking painfully with the walker but less and less. It looked like he was bound to go full time in a wheelchair. He is a tad stubborn and was fighting all he could. The VA stated that there is nothing more they could do. His balance was deteriorating; his attitude was sliding down hill. I saw your ad in the St. Petersburg Times and asked him if we should at least see what you had to offer. He had nothing to lose anyway. We went for a consultation and I understood how the treatment could work. So we decided to give it a try. It worked. In just three treatments the swelling in his legs decrease to where he had ankles again. The lack of pain and the ability to sleep helped immensely. Now he is in the rehab phase to regain his balance and rebuild his muscle mass. Had my Uncle remained without treatment he would have not gone on a cruise for Christmas, or do the little things he likes to do, such as, put on his own clothes. He walked, still with a walker, into his VA Dr. and he was astonished because he did not even know my uncle could stand let alone walk. The rehab is tough yet the outcome is worth it. We will be leaving for Roatan, Honduras. for a two week vacation in May. Something he never thought he would do. Only problem is now I find it hard to keep him still. He wants to go all the time. Thank you for giving my uncle his life back. Where there was no hope, you gave hope and that means everything! All of your techs were great, friendly and very professional. They have a great sense of humor and a skillful way of guiding a patient through the tough times. We will miss all of you. Thank you again.

Very Respectfully,
Judith A. RN

To Whom This May Concern,

My name is Larry G. I’ll presume you’re reading this because you or a loved one are hoping for what you have not found elsewhere. To get relief for your body and rest for your mind. I’ll give you a brief run down on where I was and where I have come. To let you be the judge of what will help you.

My injury was apparently caused by old fractures in my feet from marching while in the Marine Corps. I was told that scar tissue has built up and put pressure on the blood vessels and nerves, causing vessels to break in my ankles as well as neuropathy. I had pain beyond belief. This is the order that the doctors took. First there was an (1) MD (2) podiatrist (3) vascular surgeon then two more vascular surgeons (4) nerve conduction test, lime’s disease test, vascular test, MRI (5) podiatrist (6) neurologist (7) podiatrist (8) neurologist. From one to the other they had me on gabopentin, tramadol, amriptylin and hydrocodone. After the MRI they finally found I had Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.

Now for the good news. My wife heard an ad on the radio about what Dr. Mane is doing with laser treatments. I listened the next time while someone told of the symptoms it would help or heal all together. It was as though I had wrote it and another was reading what I wrote. Coldness in feet, swelling of feet and legs, great big wool socks in ninety degree weather, lots and lots of shooting pain, with a pillow between my feet and legs for pain, stinging, as well as stiffness in toes and feet. Trouble walking and keeping balance. I said I must see him. I was amazed to find he truly cared and spent at least an hour with me, while taking notes and giving advice.

I was wheel chair bound with nothing else to look forward to. I had been told by the other doctors to spend the rest of my life in my wheel chair and to keep my feet elevated. Try getting food for yourself or getting in a refrigerator or going to any restroom. Well I came in a wheel chair for the first two weeks, after that about two more weeks on crutches, then I walked in and, praise God, I walked out. And I will continue to do so. I’m not completely healed but I can walk and I’m so grateful to my wife, Estelle, for believing in me. I’m grateful to Dr. Mane and all his wonderful staff.

And a special thank you to Andrea with her encouragement and kindness.
I will soon be totally healed thanks to everyone who gave me the tools to do it with.

Larry G.

Dear Dr. Mañè,

It is with exceptional pleasure that I extend my sincerest thanks for the successful treatment of diabetic neuropathy. I was so impressed with my initial visit and though somewhat skeptical decided to give you a chance at helping me. I have been diabetic since 2002 due to medication that destroyed my insulin production of the pancreas. I had a blood sugar level of over six hundred (600) and the neuropathy probably started then. I have diligently controlled my blood sugar levels; however, my feet and legs to mid calf continued to deteriorate and they became completely numb, the pain was like a terrible toothache every minute of the day. I saw many physicians and was told repeatedly my only avenue was medication for pain. You were my last resort! Within eleven (11) treatments I was pain free and had full feeling in my legs and feet. No longer do I use my cane. I can not express in words my deepest thanks. Most Sincerely;

Marguerite C.

Dear Dr. Mane and Staff,

Thank you so much for all of your care and concern. For years Doctors told me there was nothing they could do for my diabetic neuropathy except give me medicine which did little or nothing. After your treatments I have very little burning, stinging or pain. And I’m confident that will go away too as I get some other problems in check. Thanks again, you’re care has made a big difference in my life.

Nancy T. Clearwater, FL

To Dr. Mane and his entire staff,

From the minute I walked into your waiting room, your patients and the girls at the front desk made me feel happy with my decision to come and see you. Your pleasant look and personality made me feel even more positive I had made the right choice. After seeing several medical doctors the past years in regard to the tingling and weakness in my feet and legs with no solution I came to you with my walker just about able to get from my car to your waiting room. After 17 laser treatments and rehab with the vibration on my feet and hand I was able on my 17th visit to walk into your waiting room- no walker. Everyone there was so happy for me I felt wonderful, and to think at one point I was ready to give up. I cannot praise my technician, Chris, enough she has become like family, also Andrea who gave me 2 treatments, they are the best! My long trips 3 times a week from New Port Richey were well worth it. Thank you!

My name is Pat D. I came to see Dr. Mane because I had Neuropathy in my feet and legs and was in extremely severe pain. When I first met with Dr. Mane, I was scared and apprehensive because I didn’t know anything about the High Powered Laser Treatment and was not able to talk with anyone that had gone through the treatment. After leaving Dr. Mane’s office, I felt very good about the type of treatment and wanted to sign up right away and get started on the treatment. I started the treatment soon but did not notice anything different for the first 3 treatments….and then wow, on the 4th treatment my pain was disappearing. After 6-7 treatments later….my pain had all disappeared. I had not been pain free in my legs and feet for 10 years and also, there was no medication to free me of pain. For the first time in ten years, I was able to sleep through the night without getting up 4-5 times throughout the night. I was amazed and could not believe what was happening. The therapist began working on my feet to get rid of the numbness and continued on that course for many more treatments. I began to feel a little carpet under my toes and heels but, unfortunately, the numbness never completely disappeared. Since all our bodies are different and respond to treatment differently, I had to accept the fact that, my numbness would not completely disappear and continue to live with it. I left Dr. Mane’s office a very happy person because I was now free of pain in my feet and legs. Dr. Mane and his entire staff are such wonderful, caring people and such a pleasure to be around that I actually looked forward to each treatment. I hardly believe that “thank you” is enough to express my gratitude. I will always be grateful for Dr. Mane and his staff.

Pat D.

Dr. Mane,

I have neuropathy in my legs from the knees down to the bottom of my feet I had pain in the early evening also at night time when going to bed. My legs ached all the time for years. I saw your ad in the new papers. I then went on your website and had you send out the papers on Neuropathy and I made an appointment to see you, and you explained what Laser would do for me. So I did come in and see you and had your treatments. Started 4-14-08 through 6-12-08 thank you for not giving up on me. I don’t have any more pain, just a little tingle and some numbness. I want to thank you Dr. Mane, also Chris who worked with me.

Richard Doodie

Dear Dr. Mane,

My daughters have said “You, Dr. Mane, have given us back our mom”. This is so true. It is so frustrating to watch yourself loose your independence to neuropathy and being told there is nothing you can do to stop it. A short stay in the hospital where the doctor ordered complete bed rest left me unable to walk to my mailbox or even stand while fixing meals without a walker. I had dry eyes, dry mouth, never sweat and had irregular blood pressure where it went too high or too low so that I would pass out. After my blood pressure dropped my speech and thinking was slow. This lead to my not trusting myself to drive and getting out once or twice a week meant someone else had to drive me. I wobbled so badly when I walked my friends were afraid I would fall and break some bones.

My financial advisor suggested I come see you and I made the appointment. He had many clients who had seen you. You helped them with their pain or their neuropathy. From the first treatment on my feet and my weaker side my daughters could see small changes in my balance. The neighbors noticed big changes in me after the second week. Each time you and Sara gave me my treatments my daughters wondered which symptom would disappear next. There were many. Your priority was to get my balance better. Having feeling in my feet stabilized my wobble; I could walk more which meant I could walk further to strengthen my legs. Now I walk a mile sometimes twice a day without any help, swim regularly, go out to eat frequently and play cards and bingo with friends several times a week. This was my life a couple of years ago and now this is my life again. If any doctor tells someone, “you have neuropathy and there is nothing that can be done for you”, they need to give you a call. I’m so grateful to you and your staff.

Nelma V.

Dear Dr. Mañè,

I’m writing to tell you how very pleased I am with my experience with you and all of your staff during my laser treatments for neuropathy- and to especially thank you for the results! Two months ago I had pretty much given up hope on anything being able to relieve the burning in my feet, but now they are burn-free and my quality of life has improved tremendously! Relief of the numbness is yet to come, and I look forward to that as well.
You have a wonderful team of professionals working with you and they made all of my visits to your office pleasant. Andrea especially is exceptional, and I’m sure you realize what a Gem you have there!
I am impressed with you, your practice, your staff, and with this cutting-edge treatment! Keep up the good work! And thank all of you for helping me!

Your Appreciative Patient,
Stephanie M.
