If you do not have the appropriate history an examination done at the beginning of your treatment; then it is less likely that the doctor will not order the best diagnostic testing to document your injuries as well as the appropriate treatment to resolve those injuries.
Minimal damage to your car does not necessarily mean minimal injuries to your body. Do you understand how factors such as age, sex, stature, medical history, position in vehicle and preparedness for crash can affect how well you recover. Were you asked your position in the car, your head position and impact, the head restraint position, your hand and foot position? These are the types of questions that lead to examining these body parts and then ordering the appropriate testing in order to document and treat your injuries.
If you have arthritis, diabetes or inflammatory disorders, does this make your chance of injury grater or worse? Does this make your legal case stronger or weaker?
Do you have any idea how common dizziness, forgetfulness, cognitive difficulties, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to light or noise are after a car accident and what this means for you?
What is mechanism and of injury and how does that lead into what structures in your body have been most likely to have suffered damage and therefore suggest which test to order in order to document and evaluate your condition appropriately.
How has you injury affected your ability to do things such as cooking, cleaning, combing your hair, showering, hug and kiss your kids, sexual activity, workout, play sports, go to church, go dancing, move around, wash your car and performance at work? Have you been asked these questions? Does this affect the value of your legal case?
Should you have an MRI or a CT scan ordered? Should an EMG or ENG be ordered for you? What is the likelihood that you have a peripheral nerve injury (carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, long-thoracic nerve injury) or extremity (rotator cuff, torn meniscus) injury? Were the appropriate questions asked and examination done in order to determine these issues or did you just have a quick examination of your neck. How much time did you spend with the doctor? Did the doctor actually touch your areas of pain?
Many times we find that the only test ordered for patients involved in car accidents are MRI’s. If these MRI’s do not show a disc herniation, the patient is treated as if there’s nothing wrong with him or her. When in fact, a detailed history and physical examination reveals that the patient has suffered multiple injuries which were not evident on the MRI.
We have experience with MRI evaluation not only for disc injury but for ligament injury as well. We also have experience with electrodiagnostic testing and vestibular testing. Once again, our comprehensive examination allows you to get treatment to the needed areas as well as thorough documentation of your injuries for any legal situation in which you may be involved. Below find some examples of hidden injuries and testing that we may utilize after performing a thorough history as well as orthopedic and neurological examination.
If you feel like you’re truly injured and no one has been able to figure out what is wrong with you or you have a new injury and would like us to do the evaluation and treatment for you, please call 813-935-4744 and schedule a consultation. Please be sure to bring any prior diagnostic testing or records that you have in order to save time and money.
